A fun but challenging old-school Sh'mup! (TJ in Alberta)

A fun old-school Sh'mup based on the original R-Type, which appeared on various platforms, including 2 of my favourite game systems, the Sega Master System and the Turbographx 16. It retains the difficulty that previous incarnations were know for, so be prepared to play through levels dozens of times before passing them! Definitely one of the SNES games that has stood up fairly well to the test of time.

Easy to play, difficult to master (Al in Alberta)

I played this a lot when I was a kid, but managed to lose my copy. It still is a pretty awesome game, nice sound. It's easy to pick out your space ship from the onslaught of bullets and baddies. It's really fun once you get a few upgrades to cruise around and blows things up. The orange ball you can is really neat to, acting as a shield or a projectile that can shoot backwards. Learning to control this is very important to the ret of the game. Hence, easy to play hard to master. It can be frustrating when you die though. Like most 2D shooters you lose everything when you die, but in Super R Type you are sent back to the beginning of the level at the same time.
