Flying Dragon Reviews

a surprisingly good n64 fighting game (Cory in Quebec)

I'd used to rent this a lot as a kid, so I wanted to get it to see if it was still good. This title is a bit obscure, but manages to be a lot of fun.

The controls are pretty tight and the character roster is decent. You have your robot sumo wrestler, your military guy, your cute girl, your evil guy, your pro wrestler, and so on (you get to play as either a chibi/young or adult version of most of the characters).

What sets Flying Dragon aside is its inventory system. Your characters have a personal inventory of items that can be leveled up depending on how you fight. Competing in tournaments will also reward you with new items to develop. The game itself is not easy in the traditional fighting game sense, as mashing buttons for the first few enemies will not allow you to progress. You have to be careful as the AI is very good (but never cheap).

Like in any fighting game where the characters are voice acted, it can get slightly annoying at times. But nowhere near as annoying as in clayfighter. The music in Flying Dragon is great as well, it's poorly rendered but most of it is 80's style synthetics so it works well.
