The VMU memory card was WAY ahead of it's time (Dinky in Texas)

When the Dreamcast was launched, SEGA created one of the most exciting peripherals with it's VMU memory card. This memory card had a tiny lcd screen that displayed text, graphics and it even included a small d-pad and A+B buttons. Some games even had mini-games that could be downloaded to the VMU and played on the go. You could connect to VMU's together to trade game data. THe one downside was it ate through the CR 2032 batteries really quick. Also, the amount of data it could store was pretty low, about 200K. So, some titles, especially the SEGA Sports titles, each needed their own VMU for game saves. It wasn't uncommon for a gamer to have 5-10 VMU's in their collection if they had a large Dreamcast library. Even after all this time, the VMU is one of the coolest gadgets in the video game world.
